Denmark is situated in the north of Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The total size of its territory is 42,394 sq km and it has 5.432,335 inhabitants. Denmark is a constitutional monarchy, with Copenhagen as its capital. Queen Margrethe II marked 40th anniversary of her succession to the country’s throne in 2012. She became the first female sovereign of Denmark in 1972. But, the parliament, Folketinget, is the country’s highest authority.

Denmark is a strong supporter of trade liberalization and is a member of WTO & OECD. Denmark represents mixed economy with high dependence on foreign trade which represents two-third of the GDP. The major drivers of Danish Economy are foreign trade, government welfare measures, technology driven agriculture, service-oriented sectors, high living standard and a stable currency. Denmark has one of the lowest poverty rates and lowest income disparities in the world. The most important sources of revenue in Denmark are oil, energy, the medical industry, agricultural products, shipping and IT services.

Denmark is a member of the European Union. But, the national currency remains the Danish krone. Denmark currently holds the EU Presidency in the first half of 2012.
